“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
If I could change one thing about the world, what would I change?
If I had the opportunity to change anything- small or big- in this world… what would I choose? What would anyone choose?
The idea of having the privilege to be able to change something in this world would be the highest form of flattery. I could change something from ending starvation in the world to helping people get off of the streets. I think that the one thing that I would want to change in this world is myself. Yes, the one thing that I would change about this world is myself. Is this selfish? I don’t think so. It’s not selfish in my eyes because for me to be able to attempt to change something bigger in this world, I would have to change myself first. I’m not necessarily saying that there’s something wrong with me or that I’m a bad person. Because I would like to think that I’m actually a very considerate person. But what I am saying is what everyone already knows.
This world is big. Humongous really. There are so many people, so many that need help. So many who don’t have family, friends, food, shelter. So many that have more problems that need to be solved than I do. And for me to be able to help them, I have to be able to change myself into thinking of others first always. I would want to be able to give my all to help these people in the world, and I believe I can only do so by changing myself first, for the better. Something that has always stuck with me when I think about change is from the Michael Jackson song “Man in the Mirror”:
“I’m starting with the man in the mirror,
I’m asking him to change his ways,
And no message could have been any clearer,
If you want to make the world a better place,
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change”
So if you had the opportunity to change something in this world, what would you change? How big would it be? We all have the opportunity to do something in this world, but it’s our choice whether it’s for better or worse.
